Solving problems inspires Marshall safety engineer

Photo description: Strickland

Van Strickland, an engineer with the Safety and Mission Assurance Office at the Marshall Center, isn't afraid to tackle a challenge. Strickland — recognized by NASA for his significant contributions in protecting the welfare of NASA employees — works to ensure the safety of future space travel by providing technical direction in testing unmanned flight vehicle prototypes.

In his spare time, Strickland's hobby is helping others. He's a mentor for student interns, teaching them professional skills while they explore career options in a high-technology field. He also speaks to youth groups encouraging children to seek science and engineering careers and volunteers at a community center as a tutor.
