U.S. Space Program returns to Chicago:
NASA exhibits to take Manufacturing Week expo out of this world March 18-21

NASA returns to Chicago this week for the annual National Manufacturing Week expo. Marshall Center representatives will be on hand to spotlight upgrades to the Space Shuttle Main Engine, a groundbreaking new air filtration system that eradicates anthrax spores — and NASA's futuristic Starship 2040 exhibit.

What: NASA returns to Chicago March 18-21, bringing walkthrough exhibits and its latest space technology success stories to the 12th annual National Manufacturing Week conference and expo.

New Space Shuttle hardware will be on display -- including components of a revolutionary new Main Shuttle Engine, set to power the Space Shuttle Atlantis' launch in May 2001.

NASA will feature a groundbreaking spacecraft air filtration system now being adapted by the private sector for use here on Earth -- to protect against anthrax and other airborne spores.

Starship 2040 — a 48-foot tractor and trailer rig containing NASA's vision of a commercial spaceliner as it might exist 40 years from now — returns to the expo for a second year.

NASA's Technology Transfer Program — intended to share NASA technologies with commercial enterprises — also will appear at the expo. Technology Transfer representatives will promote licensing and partnership opportunities between NASA and industry during a series of innovation briefings Wednesday, March 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Room S401D of the conference center's South Hall.

When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST, March 18-20; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. CST, March 21

Who: Experts from the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., will be available for news media interviews.

Where: Booths #8307 and #8742, South Hall McCormick Place Complex, 2301 South Lake Shore Drive, Chicago
