Media Advisory 99-157

Chandra X-ray Observatory News Center Hours
Set for Remainder of STS-93 Shuttle Mission

NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory news center in Cambridge, Mass., will continue to operate for the remainder of the STS-93 Space Shuttle mission. Hours of news center operation will be curtailed, however, now that Chandra activities are occurring on a less frequent basis than in the first few days of the mission.

The news center will close Monday night (July 26) at 8 p.m., reopening at 8 a.m. Tuesday. It will close again at 12 midnight Tuesday, shortly after the planned landing of Shuttle Columbia.

Beginning Wednesday, July 28, news media support for Chandra operations will be provided from the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., on an 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. basis, weekdays. The Huntsville phone number is (256) 544-0034.

Periodic status reports on Chandra will continue to be issued for the duration of activation and checkout of the observatory.
