RELEASE: 99-066

Area Students to Celebrate Earth Day Thursday, to Learn About Their Planet From NASA Earth Experts

Second and fifth graders from three Huntsville/Madison County schools -- Jones Valley Elementary, Monrovia Middle and Williams Middle -- will spend part of Earth Day on Thursday learning about their planet's environment from NASA Earth scientists.

Media representatives are invited to cover the students' activities at the Global Hydrology and Climate Center from 9-11 a.m. Thursday, April 22.

Hydrology Center Earth experts will help the students conduct ground water experiments, take the Earth's temperature and learn about weather balloons.

The Global Hydrology and Climate Center is jointly operated under a cooperative agreement among NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., the University of Alabama in Huntsville, the Universities Space Research Association in Columbia, Md., and the Alabama Space Science and Technology Alliance.

For more information on how to cover Earth Day activities at the Global Hydrology and Climate Center -- located at 977 Explorer Blvd. in the Cummings Research Park -- contact Tim Tyson of the Marshall Media Relations Office at (256) 544-0994.
