| Public Meeting Set Sept. 29 On Plan For 22 Marshall Center Sites Designated For 'Superfund' Program |
|
A public information meeting in Huntsville, Ala., on Sept. 29 will provide an opportunity for interested citizens to learn about and comment on a NASA plan regarding 22 sites that have been identified as part of the federal Superfund Cleanup Program. As previously announced, studies by NASA have resulted in the agency concluding that no further action is necessary at 22 of the Superfund sites at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville. The sites do not pose a threat to human health or the environment. The public meeting will be from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Huntsville/ Madison County Public Library. A public comment period on the proposed plan for the sites -- designated "operable unit 10" -- began Sept. 16th and ends Oct. 15th. The proposed plan to take no further action is based on detailed findings about the sites, which were used for a variety of purposes including washing vehicles, painting, disposing of rocket-related materials, materials storage, and drainage. |
