Peter W. Allen Appointed Facilities Office Director
At The Marshall Space Flight Center

Peter W. Allen has been named director of the Facilities Office at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala.

In his new position, Allen is responsible for all facilities management at the Marshall Center, which includes engineering design and construction, facilities operations and maintenance, calibration, master planning, energy management and emergency management. He has served as deputy director of the office since 1995.

Allen joined the Marshall Center in 1987 as a systems engineer in the Facilities Office. He then served in increasingly responsible positions, including branch chief, division chief and deputy director.

Allen developed the full-cost accounting program for the Facilities Office, and led the effort to develop the office’s strategic plan – a plan that provides a focused framework for facilities management at Marshall.

In addition to his work at the Center, Allen has served as chair of NASA’s Agencywide Configuration Control Board for construction specifications, which is made up of representatives from each NASA center and NASA Headquarters. He also led a technical team – composed of engineers from across NASA, as well as from the Air Force – that provided expertise to develop a hydrogen test facility at Dryden Flight Research Center in Edwards, Calif. Allen serves as chair of the Operation and Engineering Panel, with representatives from across NASA, to provide independent evaluation of NASA activities.

A native of Auburn, Ala., Allen holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Auburn University in Auburn, Ala., and a master’s in management from the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Fla. He is a registered professional engineer in Alabama. He and his wife, the former Jane Dukes, live in Madison and have two children.
