For Release: Sept. 27, 1996 Angela Storey RELEASE: 96-168 NOTE TO EDITORS: MARSHALL SPACE FLIGHT CENTER COMBINED FEDERAL CAMPAIGN SET FOR SEPT. 30 KICKOFF The Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., will kick off this year's Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) drive at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30 in Morris Auditorium in Building 4200. The theme for this year's campaign is "Giving Hope to Others." The featured speaker for the event will be Doris McHugh, community volunteer and loaned executive for United Way. McHugh has served on the boards of several CFC agencies, including the American Heart Association, Harris Home, HOPE Place, American Red Cross and Aid for Retarded Citizens. She is an area director for Special Olympics and serves on the executive committee of the Special Olympics Golf Tournament. McHugh is credited with implementing the first Special Olympics Track and Field Day and establishing the first Mayor's Advisory Council on Fitness in Alabama. Additionally, Marshall Center Director Dr. Wayne Littles will give remarks and the Opportunity Center Patriots will perform square dances. CFC has a history of providing hope to many individuals in the Tennessee Valley, according to Sharal Huegele, the Marshall Center's CFC Executive Committee chairperson. "Last year, the Tennessee Valley campaign contributed $1,376,000 to CFC agencies, of which Marshall contributed over $444,000," said Huegele. "The Marshall campaign is an icon in the local federal community," she noted. "Marshall has gained the respect of other federal agencies because of the way we give. The vision for this campaign is that more Marshall employees will want to share in this giving of hope so that we all can share in the pride and feelings of accomplishment that come with giving." The CFC is the annual government fund-raising drive combining international, national and local nonprofit organizations. The Marshall Center campaign will run through Nov. 8. Media interested in covering the kickoff event should come to the Marshall Public Affairs Office in Building 4200, Room 107, approximately 15 minutes prior to the event. |
