|
The commercial development of the space frontier is one of the greatest and most important opportunities facing American industry today. As space is explored, it is the economic expansion into that frontier which will return many of the benefits of that exploration to the American people and bring space fully within the sphere of human endeavor. One of NASA's mission areas as stated in the NASA Strategic Plan, is "To explore, use, and enable the development of space for human enterprise". The Space Product Development office contributes towards this mission, by partnering with industry and academia, to enable the development of opportunities for commerce in space. The goal of the Space Product Development Office is to facilitate the use of space for commercial products and services. The Space Product Development Office supports U.S. industry in the improvement of existing products and services, and in the creation of new products, services, and employment opportunities through the application of the space environment, and from knowledge gained from space research. The STS-95 mission will feature eight microgravity payloads with 26 different commercial investigators sponsored by the NASA's Space Product Development with commercial applications in materials, agriculture, biotechnology and biomedical industries. |
