Dr.
Sara J. Graves is the Director of the Information Technology and
Systems Center (ITSC) and Professor of Computer Science at the University
of Alabama in Huntsville. As Director of the ITSC, she directs the
conduct of research in the following information technology areas:

Design, develop and manage large scientific databases and knowledge
bases;

Develop state-of-the-art distributed information management systems
to provide access to multi-level data in support of NASA's Earth
Observing System Data and Information System;

Develop advanced searching techniques, such as content-based data
mining technology to permit the discovery of scientifically-significant
phenomena within large data holdings; and
-
Develop high performance networking and high-end computing technologies
and applications
Dr.
Graves is the Chair of the NASA Headquarters Advisory Subcommittee
on Earth Science Data and Information Systems and Services. She
is also a member of the NASA Headquarters Earth System Science and
Applications Committee. She serves on the Goddard Space Flight Center
Information Technology Advisory Group. Dr. Graves is a member of
the Alabama Space Science Exhibit Commission (ASSEC) and has served
as Chair for the New Technology and the Aerospace Committees. She
is an active member of six professional organizations. In particular,
she is the Secretary to the Computer Society of the Institute of
Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
Dr.
Graves has a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from The University
of Alabama in Huntsville, a master's degree in Institutional Analysis
from The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, and a master's degree
in Computer Science from The University of Alabama in Huntsville.
She has a B.S. degree in Mathematics from the University of Alabama,
Tuscaloosa.
