Dr. Monte G. Bateman
Research Scientist
The Universities Space Research Association

Dr. Monte G. Bateman of the Universities Space Research Association is a research scientist at the Global Hydrology and Climate Center, based at the National Space Science and Technology Center in Huntsville, Ala.

He is a co-investigator for the fourth Convection And Moisture EXperiment (CAMEX-4) - a series of field investigations to better understand hurricanes. Dr. Bateman is a member of the team researching "Total Lightning Measurements of Tropical Precipitating Systems." Data obtained by this research will help scientists explore what lightning can tell us about atmospheric processes associated with convection and how lightning observations can contribute to improved forecasts.

Dr. Bateman earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in engineering physics, as well as his doctorate in physics, from the University of Oklahoma in Norman. He is author of several technical publications on atmospheric research and is a member of the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Society and the American Institute of Physics.
