Dr. Chryssa Kouveliotou, a scientist at the National Space Science and Technology Center (NSSTC) in Huntsville, Ala., has won two prestigious awards for research in astrophysics. The Rossi Prize recognizes Kouveliotou's research of magnetars, neutron stars with extraordinarily strong magnetic fields, and the Descartes Prize recognizes her contributions to the study of powerful explosions known as gamma ray bursts. The NSSTC is a partnership with the Marshall Center, Alabama universities and federal agencies. (NASA Marshall/Emmet Given)
